I Like Swiss Cheese

Sleeping on my head.  If you believe 7th grade biology than Miloh can't be my kid... He's got recessive features; blonde hair and blue eyes. But according to 8th grade biology he can be mine because it's not a black and white issue of genes. Now I'm not sure if any of the above is true about biology because it was awhile ago... I feel like I learned recessive and dominant as absolute and then later as how it actually works. Not sure if that was in two different grades, two different weeks or two different sentences... And I'm not sure if any of that made sense, but I decided to pay myself by the word for this post so I'm padding... But there are some ways to tell that Miloh is a tiny me in sheeps clothing. It's in his personality and the things he does. One specific thing is sleep time. I realize a lot of kids, if not all, drag it out... But I see a little me in the way he does it. I was able to drag out sleep with the best. If you ever get ...

First Generation Dad

My parents divorced when I was 12 (or about then) and I would guess they separated when I was 11. And while my father was around those 11 years and I was forced to see him for a few years after the divorce I wouldn't say he was a dad in any respect. Unless you consider a dad to be the person that sits in front of the TV with you occasionally offering you a pretzel but never going to a ball game or any other activity of yours. I could get more into the whole thing but you get the gist  And while there were other positive male figures around in my life you can't replace the role of a dad. So that being said I feel I'm a first generation dad. A stranger in a strange land. Someone that has heard of the idea of being a dad, seen the concept in practice but never experienced it.  And so it's been about a year and a half and it feels more natural than I thought it would. It's the best thing ever in fact. Having a great partner in Staci helps. And having a super amazi...

Thumbsucker - another floorbed adventure

This post may be hilarious or it could be that I'm just short on oxygen from laughing so much that I couldn't breath. Earlier I put Miloh to bed just as I normally do. Plopped him on his floor bed and lied on the floor next to him with my hand on his back. 4 out of 4.5 times that I do this I fall asleep next to him...and that did happen but that's not the story. We give Miloh a pacifier when he goes to sleep. It's really the only time he needs one and it's great because it's a cue for him to go to bed, or when he grabs it for us to know he's sleepy. But he's fickle and often likes a couple—of identical—pacifiers to choose from and/or switch throughout the night. Now if you remember from an older post he sometimes puts one of the pacifiers in my mouth, you know because I have a hard time sleeping without one. Today he only had one. Well there I am lying next to him when he shoves his hand in my mouth...then he scrapped my mouth with his nails...

Nighttime through the eyes of Miloh

I'm super fascinated by brains of kids at the age Miloh is (9 months-ish). He babbles a lot and it's hard to tell if he's content with his babble, and our smiles that it gets, or if he's trying to communicate. Later you can see that a kid is trying to communicate and gets frustrated because he/she can't. Now is a weird sweet spot where I just can't figure what's going on in their brain. So I thought I'd write what Miloh could be thinking from when I get home from work until he goes to bed. This of course he he has mastered the English language...at least in thought...here goes: Oh, there's that dude that lives here. Hey lady, did you see that? The dude that lives here just came home. Hah, the dog is going nuts, she's funny. Look at her, she can't stop wiggling. Am I the only one seeing this? Hey folks are you seeing this? This is cracking me up. Why did the dude pick me up? I'm sitting here watching this dog and having a good ...

My greatest moment so far

This weekend we went back to my home town for Miloh's baby naming...he got a Hebrew name...that should be a post and maybe it will someday become one. He was a bit off his game, we weren't sure if it was from the travel, the new environment or the teething. Well one night he was wailing like crazy...it was a new cry...seemed like it was of total pain. So I went down to the room he was sleeping in to check on him. I was just supposed to make sure he wasn't on his belly because sometimes he get's stuck there and get's frustrated...and before you go off on us allowing him to sleep on his belly our doc told us that at this point it was okay if he rolled there on his own...partly because he is strong enough to roll over, partly because he let's us know when he's had enough. I went down and saw that he was on his belly...but I could tell he was in total pain and flipping him over didn't do the trick. So I grabbed him up and comforted him until he went ...
