The Great Water Class Swindle

Did you know when you Google "percentage of urine in an average swimming pool" there's no real good answer? We know. about the composition of rocks on Mars but we don't know how much pee is in an average pool. Seems to me like our priorities are a bit off. I looked because of this post which is about me swimming in a pool with a bunch of kids. In other words I swam in a mix of 75% pee, 10% snot, 5% poo and 10% water. That's my unscientific guess. We started Miloh in a swimming class. I wasn't looking forward to being in the pool. I don't like pools. I like lakes, rivers and oceans. Staci likes pools but not lakes because they are filthy... I'd rather swim in sludge than high concentrations of pee. We were running late so I broke the cardinal rule of swimming pools. I didn't shower before getting in. I think this got some looks but here's the deal. I was clean and I don't see any need to shower before I swim in pee. Then as I entered...

New Giveaway: ABC's for Expectant Dads - 10 awesome copies

Winners have been picked for the giveaway. Todd was so nice as to give all who entered by the deadline a copy of his book. Thanks all who entered...I sent an email to you for your info. Please email me (info on the header) if you don't get that email. Rommel I could not find your email...please let me know your contact info. A bit ago I found Todd Lieman in Twitterland and he sent me a copy of his book ABC's for Expectant Dads: The Ultimate A- for Dads-in-Training. I'd looked at a bunch of expectant dad books and I thought most were terrible. I did pick up The Expectant Father and I liked it but I haven't looked at it in months. I think it's tough for dad's because we're just reading about what's going on with the mothers and it's easier to hear it from them. Staci is reading so much that she keeps me up to date on things I should know and I'm sure most expectant moms are the same. I'm also luckily in that doing this blog has connected...

Update post

An unexpected side affect of writing this blog is that I was introduced to the world of baby blogs. Totally didn't expect it, but since most of my readers are pregnant women or moms it makes sense. There is some great stuff out there. One of the blogs I'm digging is the818.com by Morgan. Great, real look at pregnancy with some cool design stuff too. She does a weekly update on what's going on with her and her pregnancy. All those questions that folks would ask. But since men aren't the ones doing the hard work no one asks us what's up with us. I thought it would be fun to answer her update questions from a male point of view. So here goes: How far along? Officially 22 weeks and 4 days, but since I know a little more about math and the female body than every doctor I know that it's really closer to 20. Total weight gain/loss: Down 3 pounds...sorry. Stretch marks? I always had these little ones on my ankles...I think they are from when I grew to...

9-5

In about 5 months Staci and I are going to have some sort of kid hanging around. And then a few months later we'll need a place for that kid to hang while we're at work. Society, the law and Staci frown on leaving a baby home alone with a dog all day, even if our dog Kalli is super sweet and would take good care of it, so that idea was out. We whittled out nannies, day care centers and decided on an in-home place. So a month ago we started calling people. And apparently we were months behind on the process of finding someone. Problem is that most places have a waiting list of 1 to 2 years. Now this might be over-sharing, but Staci and I are both humans. That being said we have a gestation period of 9 months. And, to my knowledge, most of the folks in our neighborhood are human. So I didn't get this 2 year waiting list thing...yeah if the places were full that would be one thing. But they were either not full or they had a few kids going in to regular school. They were holdi...

$50 a day

Last week there were a bunch of news articles , or actually one reused many times, on the cost of raising a baby that is born today. With inflation figured in the total through 17 years comes to just under $292,000 for middle income and $367,000 for higher income. So with some fuzzy math that works to between $45 and $59 per day. And since we're figuring inflation in that might just be the cost of some foo-foo drink at Starbucks in the year 2028.

girl vs. boy

When Staci and I were talking about trying to get pregnant we knew that it could take a long time. However we both treated that information differently. Staci being a teacher wanted to have the baby at a time that would coincide with summer break so that was an important factor in when to start. She was betting on it taking a while so she thought she should start early. I was really aware of the fact it could take one time and thought we should figure that into our timing. All those who know Staci know that she is a planner. So we set a month to start. Then she freaked out a bit thinking it would take even longer than she planned (we both realize you can't plan it) so she wanted to start even earlier. Staci won out, but I was right. We realize we're very lucky that it worked out well. So why am I giving you all this info? Well according to a study , since it didn't take long to conceive, it means that we'll have a girl. So there is a bit of science on baby gender...we...

You're already looking bloated...

The whole idea of starting this blog came when I was talking to friends about some of the things I've said to Staci since we found out she was pregnant. Things that you probably shouldn't say to anyone you like, especially your pregnant wife. I'll posts these Kennyisms as they happen, but for now I'll pepper in some of the things I've said so far. It started with a small one, but a good one. 2 days after we found out Staci was pregnant I made the comment that I thought she looked bloated, which is weird because she was only 7 days pregnant (or 14 weeks or one month or something. The math on pregnancy is ridiculous and I'll talk about that later.) Well she wasn't happy about the comment as she wouldn't show for a few months. But to be fair, she was bloated and looked normal a couple days later. So I was right or maybe I wasn't right but I was correct. I screwed up again the next day...I'll post that tomorrow.
