Showing posts with the label observations

This song is about me or the post in which I realize I'm old and just don't get today's music.

A few months ago Staci, Miloh and I took a road trip to the fabulous city of Dubuque. My iPod was packed in the trunk... oops, there wasn't enough music on our phones and data service was spotty so Pandora was hard to use. Life's tough, right? So we were stuck with the middle of nowhere radio... which in all honestly I like because it's always an interesting search and it's the only time I get to hear Boston or Kansas. And while listening to an 80s station I made the comment that music has changed in that when I was kid the songs about women where more pining for them, rather than being so confident that the guy would hook up... like I feel they are today. And that insecure pining was great and became the soundtrack to all John Hughes movies. Which made me wonder whether my observation was right, which of course it is because I'm never wrong. It also made me wonder what the top songs were when I was born. Also what will be popular music when Miloh starts f...

Good Night

The other day after Miloh chomped on his Cheerios while Staci and I ate dinner I through my hand up to him and said "high five." He reciprocated. I smiled...probably ear to ear and put my hand up again for another. He smiled and gave me a second high five. We'd never done that before...I think one might have been offered when he was super young but I haven't tried in months. It was great. Then I went to put him to sleep...I laid on the floor next to him (in case you didn't know we have a floor bed .) He was there hanging with his pacifiers, he only gets them when he goes to sleep and now he can only sleep with at least 2. One in his mouth the others in his hands or around the bed...he switches around a bit. So there I was and he takes the one that isn't in his mouth and he tries to put it in mine. When he finally got it in my mouth, as opposed to my nose, cheek or eye, he smiled big. Then he took it out and tried to put it back in...and smiled. Thi...

Observations: I'm getting all Montessori

One of the things I learned from Staci about the Montessori way is you should observe the child. And I've been doing that...not because of the Montessori thing really but because I'm kind of fascinated by baby's brains. Here's a few of the things I've noticed, I'm sure all kids do these things but I'm having fun watching them happen. He's starting to put things in his mouth. He's been grasping for a little bit and now he decided he's bored with that. So when he grabs something he starts to bring it to his mouth. The thing is that his hand eye coordination is not exactly where it will eventualy be...he's about 1 or 2 inches off. It's kind of cute. Depending on the thing it goes to his eye or cheek. Then, if it's the right thing, he'll get it into his mouth. He can get this Manhattan Toy teether in is mouth every time. But it's the Manhattan Toy Skwish that screws him up a bit...too much going on. He loves the mirror...I...
