My greatest moment so far

This weekend we went back to my home town for Miloh's baby naming...he got a Hebrew name...that should be a post and maybe it will someday become one.

He was a bit off his game, we weren't sure if it was from the travel, the new environment or the teething.

Well one night he was wailing like crazy...it was a new cry...seemed like it was of total pain.

So I went down to the room he was sleeping in to check on him. I was just supposed to make sure he wasn't on his belly because sometimes he get's stuck there and get's frustrated...and before you go off on us allowing him to sleep on his belly our doc told us that at this point it was okay if he rolled there on his own...partly because he is strong enough to roll over, partly because he let's us know when he's had enough.

I went down and saw that he was on his belly...but I could tell he was in total pain and flipping him over didn't do the trick. So I grabbed him up and comforted him until he went to sleep again. Then I put him back in his bed and he started wailing, so I picked him up again to comfort him in my arms.

That's when I realized that even though he was probably in pain he was completely f-ing with me...he knew I was going to pick him up every time he cried. But he just looked to cute so I held him and rested while he slept.

It was so cool because he was curling up like when he was a baby...I realize he's still a baby but I mean he was like he was a brand new baby.

Next he woke a bit and gave me his pacifier...he'd been doing this to Staci for awhile but it was the first time he gave it to me. Then he fell back asleep.

Moments later Staci came down to check on him and she say him lying in my arms...she asked why he was in my arms, because it was going against our normal routine of sleep and comforting him...a routine I'm pretty strict with.

Then he woke.

She asked him if he was he was scheming...with the best timing ever he pulled his blankie over his face, gave a giant smile and gave a huge giggle...because he knew he was guilty.

It was awesome.

  1. ha! oh yeah, even little babies can be little manipulators. It kills me every time they start doing that because it means that everything from here on out gets so much more complicated.
    M sounds SO cute :)

  2. This reminds me of when Braden was younger and I would hear him messing around in his crib and I would go up there to tell him it was nap time not play time. Then he caught on so one time when I went up there to get him to lay down I opened the door and he DROPPED down immediately and started fake SNORING. I'm pretty sure I started laughing and there was no nap that day.

  3. I thought I was reading my own thoughts here. My 7 month old f's with me so I know exactly what you mean. He knows it pains me to hear him cry so I always pick him up. Sucks that I never learn even when I see him giving "sucker" glances to his mama.

  5. That is one of the cutest stories ever! Love it! My parents tell me that I was a real schemer like that. I was always pulling pranks on people when I was a kid...still do!

Giveaway Gear Thursday: Paper Culture ($25 coupon code)

Gear Thursday is back this week with a giveaway from a great company called Paper Culture and I'm giving away $25 coupon codes to two different winners. I found Paper Culture on my search for some really well designed birth announcements. Being a designer I probably should have designed them myself but the chaos of a new baby made that impossible. When I saw their announcements I was psyched...we ordered the one below. We were super happy we went with them over some of the other places we've found. A few reasons for that...their designs are great and pretty much the style I would have designed, they are printed on really nice stock (a matte 130lb thick paper), the cards have rounded corners which makes them look nicer and real people lay out your cards. That last one was kind of important to me. You plug in your info and a designer lays it out and sends you a proof in a couple days. You can OK it, make a change or decide not to go with it...there is no obligation. Everyon...

You were wrong Mr. Smith...boys do cry

yeah I'm re-using a pic but it works so well Here's a little story that has laughter, a hell of a lot of tears and a happy ending. It's basically like Shrek and should therefore be picked up by Pixar. If you are from there please contact me so we can work together. The story is about how we got putting Miloh to sleep. It starts with with an earlier pos t called Sweet Child O Mine. A post that talks about how I started going insane while trying to put him to sleep when he was a month old. Once we got over that hump it was smooth sailing. With the help of a twitter mom (thanks Mae) we came up with a great routine of bath, bottle then sleep, while we switched who put him to sleep every other night. Then something would happen...we'd bath him, give him the bottle, comfort him until a bit sleepy and then put him in his bed. The second the he hit the mattress he would start wailing...it wasn't fun...not at all. Staci and I had theories...mine was teething w...

Response to a comment about breastfeeding

Since I'm a dude and unable to produce milk from I never thought I woul have to defend the reason we formula feed instead of breast feed. But I received a comment on a recent post so I thought I would talk about it here. I'll get to the why we don't later but I'll start off on a tangent. First off I don't want to alienate the person who asked the comment because they say they are a reader and I'm cool with anyone stopping by. But I can't call the person out anyway because the comment was anonymous...and here is where I go into a little bit of a rant, and if you follow me on twitter you know I'm a fan of the rant. I'm assuming the comment was anonymous on purpose. Perhaps the person is a friend or someone I follow on twitter. Maybe they didn't want to ruin that relationship by coming out and saying it. I'm  a big boy and can handle criticism. Anonymous comments are never things like "Where did you get that cool toy?" they ar...
