He Finally Gets My Waffles

Smashing a waffle into his eye

There's a good chance that the title of this post is misleading. Miloh may have had homemade waffles from me, but I forget if he has. So I'm counting this as the first time.

If you've been reading since a bit before Miloh was born you'd know that, in this post, I was trying to figure out how waffles could be my breakfast thing for Miloh.

Well I saw a great feature on the Paula & Paula blog which was called Breakfast International. Honestly, and without hyperbole, I think it's one of the best features I've seen on a blog. I am for some reason always interested in what people in other countries do for breakfast.

Maybe it's because I'm all over the place with mine. Sometimes I do full on meals, sometimes almost nothing. But my fave breakfast is espresso and a great scone or croissant. Problem is great espresso and pastries are hard to find... And it's not a nutritious breakfast.

Along those lines I found it really interesting that few of the folks participating have what Americans would consider a nutritious breakfast. You know, the stuff you see in cereal commercials; cereal, milk, OJ, some kind of meat and fruit.

I realize that's a lofty goal for breakfast that few attain... But sometimes I feel we're not doing the best for Miloh when we don't  have the picture perfect table. So it was nice to see a great range...

Anyway I tweeted that I loved the idea and was asked to participate.

And so Miloh got my waffles because I thought it was a great time to start a little breakfast tradition with him.

I'll added one teaser pic here but you can see more at Paul & Paula's.

What do you all do for breakfast for your kids? For you?

  1. Topher's thing is pancakes so most Sundays he makes a double batch, then I serve the toaster oven reheated version to Piper throughout the week, typically with scrambled eggs. She refuses milk so has apple juice with water (50/50).

But. Some days she just has dry cheerios. Or toast. But only if it's homemade bread. She's a bit spoiled with a baking enthusiast for a mother.

I usually have coffee and possibly some toast or oatmeal. Boring.

Maybe i'll try my hand at croissants...

  4. @mae a double batch and freezer is my plan for future weeks. Also you should send me croissants when you make them. Thanks.

@katie what's Eoghans? Also I've done chocolate cake for my breakfast at times and then sung the Bill Cosby song in my head.

Giveaway Gear Thursday: Paper Culture ($25 coupon code)

Gear Thursday is back this week with a giveaway from a great company called Paper Culture and I'm giving away $25 coupon codes to two different winners. I found Paper Culture on my search for some really well designed birth announcements. Being a designer I probably should have designed them myself but the chaos of a new baby made that impossible. When I saw their announcements I was psyched...we ordered the one below. We were super happy we went with them over some of the other places we've found. A few reasons for that...their designs are great and pretty much the style I would have designed, they are printed on really nice stock (a matte 130lb thick paper), the cards have rounded corners which makes them look nicer and real people lay out your cards. That last one was kind of important to me. You plug in your info and a designer lays it out and sends you a proof in a couple days. You can OK it, make a change or decide not to go with it...there is no obligation. Everyon...

You were wrong Mr. Smith...boys do cry

yeah I'm re-using a pic but it works so well Here's a little story that has laughter, a hell of a lot of tears and a happy ending. It's basically like Shrek and should therefore be picked up by Pixar. If you are from there please contact me so we can work together. The story is about how we got putting Miloh to sleep. It starts with with an earlier pos t called Sweet Child O Mine. A post that talks about how I started going insane while trying to put him to sleep when he was a month old. Once we got over that hump it was smooth sailing. With the help of a twitter mom (thanks Mae) we came up with a great routine of bath, bottle then sleep, while we switched who put him to sleep every other night. Then something would happen...we'd bath him, give him the bottle, comfort him until a bit sleepy and then put him in his bed. The second the he hit the mattress he would start wailing...it wasn't fun...not at all. Staci and I had theories...mine was teething w...

Response to a comment about breastfeeding

Since I'm a dude and unable to produce milk from I never thought I woul have to defend the reason we formula feed instead of breast feed. But I received a comment on a recent post so I thought I would talk about it here. I'll get to the why we don't later but I'll start off on a tangent. First off I don't want to alienate the person who asked the comment because they say they are a reader and I'm cool with anyone stopping by. But I can't call the person out anyway because the comment was anonymous...and here is where I go into a little bit of a rant, and if you follow me on twitter you know I'm a fan of the rant. I'm assuming the comment was anonymous on purpose. Perhaps the person is a friend or someone I follow on twitter. Maybe they didn't want to ruin that relationship by coming out and saying it. I'm  a big boy and can handle criticism. Anonymous comments are never things like "Where did you get that cool toy?" they ar...
